Jesse's resume does not read like a typical political candidate. Although he has always felt passionate about working to preserve our freedoms, until a few years ago he had never considered running for public office. Jesse is best described as a family man. He and his wife Cami and their 4 children love calling Bountiful home and because Jesse cares deeply about maintaining the integrity and safety of his and your children's hometown, he has decided to run for a seat on the Bountiful City Council. Being involved with the city on many levels and serving on the Bountiful City Planning Commission for almost 5 years has given Jesse a front row seat to the issues that we citizens are facing. His unique professional experience in planning, urban design, and public input are just what we need to bring unity and vision to our great city.
I am a husband and father who cares deeply about this city that my kids are growing up in. I have 2 teenage daughters, and 2 rowdy boys. My oldest is 18 and my youngest is 8. My family and I have lived in the heart of Bountiful for 16 years and we love it! Some of our favorite things are hikes, bike rides, camping, walks around our neighborhood, barbecues, ice cream, and home made cookies. My kids walk and ride bikes or scooters to their schools that are close by. Ensuring that our town is safe and well taken care of is a top priority for me.
My wife, Cami and I both grew up in the small town of Roosevelt, Utah. We met and dated in high school, but when she left for Ricks College at the same time that I left to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints I thought the chances of us ending up together were slim. We kept in touch and were thrilled to be reunited two and half years later at Utah State University. After Cami completed her bachelor degree she agreed to marry me, and the rest as they say is history. Although we still love to visit family in Roosevelt, Bountiful has felt like home since day 1. Sixteen years ago we were drawn to this community with quiet, friendly neighborhoods, big yards, and wonderful people.
Much of my professional life has been spent as a planner and urban designer. I earned a degree in Landscape Architecture and Environmental Planning from Utah State University and spent a year working in San Diego, CA before settling in Bountiful. I've worked on a lot of projects that have improved communities and property values. Some of the more notable projects that I've had the opportunity to be part of are: City Creek Center, Red Butte Gardens, The Regional Athletic Complex (RAC), temple grounds for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and many city parks and trailheads.
Several years ago I changed jobs and I'm now a mortgage loan officer. This career change has allowed me to spend more time with my family, and serve in church callings and city appointments like the Trails Committee and Planning Commission. Helping people get into homes has also given me an in depth look at housing affordability.
Unlike other current city council candidates, I have already been working and volunteering for Bountiful City, sharing my talents and skills to help improve our town. I didn't start out wanting to be in politics, although I've always been passionate about preserving our freedoms. Serving in city positions has opened my eyes to the many complex issues that Bountiful is facing. Growth, redevelopment, the incredible, underutilized mountains around us, increased taxes, property rights - which I have learned to value even more and respect at all levels, and citizens that want to serve and help build our community but are lacking direction, just to name a few.
I believe I am the candidate best suited to help with these issues.
Please consider voting for me for Bountiful City Council. I promise to take this position very seriously. I understand that the decisions that are made by the city council have an impact on the lives of all our residents. I have learned from past mistakes and I will continue to learn through vigorous public outreach and personal research so that I can make the best decisions when called upon to do so.
Help me bring unity to Bountiful ideas and plan for our future.
With your vote and support we can do the extraordinary!
"Jesse truly cares about Bountiful and the individuals that live here. He wants the best for our community and knows that the best isn't necessarily his personal agenda. Jesse takes time to actively listen and understand what others care about. He isn't afraid to be wrong or ask for more information when he doesn't fully understand. These qualities make him a great person to represent Bountiful City on our City Council." Jeremy Holt
